WE see it in all kinds of personal relationships, even constituent to government.  If the Democrats get their way, we'll all be dependent on government with always more involved bureaucrats running our lives as we say, "Yes, Sir!"
 
During the 70's we all studied the avalanche of self help books on the market.  Many of them dealt with a new term..... co-dependency.
You could read about that one subject for years, from Carl Jung to Erma Bombeck! This is the best explanation I have heard but anonymous so I cannot give credit to who said it.
Old guy walks into a psychiatrist's office looking very forlorn.
"Doc!"  he says.
"My room mate thinks she's a Chicken! 
She clucks and pecks and is convinced she's a damn Chicken!"
"What should I do?"
The Shrink looks at him and says,  "Have you just told her that she is NOT a chicken!?"
